Safe, effective, and competent prescribing

Medication Management

Telehealth psychiatric prescribing for Idaho residents.

My philosophy as a prescriber

I believe medications can be a valuable tool in treating and managing mental health conditions, but they are just one part of a comprehensive care plan. In my view, medication is not the conclusion of the healing process—it’s often the beginning. I take a thoughtful and evidence-based approach, which may include reviewing your current prescriptions and, when appropriate, considering deprescribing medications that are no longer effective or necessary. My goal is to minimize unnecessary side effects and health risks while optimizing treatment outcomes. I also work collaboratively with other members of your care team to ensure integrated and effective care.

Let’s identify if medication is right for you.

My medication management service is more than just writing prescriptions—it’s about thoughtful collaboration and ongoing monitoring. I provide regular follow-ups to assess symptom improvement, side effects, and your overall well-being. Together, we will weigh the benefits and risks, adjust your treatment plan as needed, and ensure medications support—not replace—the broader work of healing.

Common questions about mental health medications

  • As a prescribing psychologist, I can prescribe any medications used to treat psychiatric conditions, including controlled substances. In cases involving controlled medications—such as stimulants used for ADHD—I may require additional assessment, testing, or documentation of a previous diagnosis to ensure appropriate and safe prescribing.

  • This is where the beauty of an integrated therapy and medication approach lies. When medication is used on its own, without meaningful internal or behavioral change, people often find themselves relying on it indefinitely. With some exceptions—such as conditions that tend to be more chronic and biologically based such as bipolar disorder or schizophrenia—most treatment guidelines for common issues like depression and anxiety actually recommend discontinuing medication after a sustained period of remission and stability. Achieving that kind of remission, however, is much more difficult when medication is used in isolation.

That said, if long-term or indefinite use of medication is necessary, you should feel confident that any potential risks or side effects are outweighed by the improved functioning and quality of life that the treatment brings. I believe that your investment and belief in your treatment is just as important as the treatment itself.
