Patrick Bartos, PsyD, MSCP
Licensed clinical psychologist and provisional prescribing psychologist
Welcome to my Practice
Hello! I’m Dr. Patrick Bartos, a licensed clinical psychologist and provisional prescribing psychologist with over 20 years of clinical experience. I specialize in integrating evidence-based psychotherapy with thoughtful, individualized medication management to support holistic mental health care. My practice draws from work experience in diverse settings—including college health centers, primary care clinics, and private practice—allowing me to collaborate effectively across disciplines and tailor treatment to each person’s unique needs.
In addition to my clinical work, I am a clinical associate professor at Idaho State University’s College of Pharmacy, where I teach and mentor graduate level students in psychopharmacology and the integration of psychological and pharmacological approaches to care. My academic interests reflect my belief that therapy and medication are not opposing tools, but complementary ones—most effective when used with intention and in partnership with the person receiving care.
Originally from Portland (OR), I recently relocated to Boise and am enjoying the opportunity to explore new mountain trails and spend time in the wilderness. Outside of work, you’ll often find me running, hiking, backpacking, and recharging in nature.
What’s it like to work with me?
At the heart of my work is a deep respect for each person’s unique story, strengths, and struggles. I believe that healing happens through human connection—and that therapy is most effective when built on a foundation of compassion, collaboration, and trust.
While medications can be helpful tools in reducing symptoms and supporting mental health, they are rarely a complete solution on their own. I view them as one part of a larger process—often useful in creating the stability or clarity needed to engage more deeply in therapy.
True and lasting change comes from doing the inner work: forming new habits, shifting long-held beliefs, cultivating emotional awareness and acceptance, and practicing new ways of relating to yourself and others. In essence, it’s about gradually rewiring the brain and building emotional and psychological resilience, not unlike building physical strength through exercise: requiring time, effort, and dedication.
Healing and growth isn’t easy. It asks for honesty, vulnerability, and bravery. But you don’t have to do it alone. My job is to create a safe, supportive space and to offer guidance, reflection, and encouragement as you navigate whatever challenges you’re facing. Together, we work toward meaningful, lasting change—one step at a time.
Accurate Diagnosis
Getting the diagnosis right is the foundation of effective care. I take time to deeply understand each patient’s unique experiences—not just checking off DSM-5 criteria, but exploring the broader context of your life, values, and history. My goal is a thoughtful, comprehensive assessment that helps us understand not just what’s going on, but why.
Individualized Treatment Plans
Medication is just one piece of the puzzle. I work collaboratively with each patient to develop a personalized treatment plan that takes into account your physical health, relationships, values, and long-term goals. This whole-person approach ensures that treatment is tailored to support your well-being, not just manage symptoms.
Support for Success
Healing happens in the context of connection. I prioritize building a strong, supportive therapeutic relationship that goes beyond the rushed, impersonal feel often associated with medication visits. Whether we meet for a brief consult or ongoing care, you’ll be met with curiosity, respect, and partnership every step of the way.
